the moon follows the car
Friday, September 12, 2003

Well, it's done. It's a sad household today. Linda has the day off, and she's on the couch napping. She says that she's watching Dr. Phil, but he already went off (probably to get real somewhere), so that means she's napping. I have been paying bills and cussing the body shop. The car won't be done until sometime next week. I'm ready for it to be done, now.

I was okay with everything yesterday until I had to bring Mischief in and give him the sedative. I got really emotional then, and struggled with it for a few minutes, and was just about back to rights, when Linda called to see how the sedative was affecting him. I couldn't even talk to her. I managed to compose myself a little bit later, and other than being really teary-eyed at the vet's office, I was okay. I got him in the carrier, and got him to the vet without much whining. Linda got there. We went in, and the girl at the desk asked me on the way in if we had Mischief. They were expecting us, and took us straight in. We stayed in the exam room with him, and Linda had decided that she could not stay for it. The vet told her that she might want to, that she was first going to give him a shot to make him go to sleep, and then another to stop his heart. So she stayed there and stroked him and talked to him while he went out. It was touching. She went out. I went to the car with her, and made sure that she could drive, and she left. I went back in and the vet and her assistant were ready to go, so they held him for the shot, and I put my hand on him, and he was gone.

He had a good day. It was really pretty here, warm with a nice breeze blowing. I left him outside most of the day, and gave him his own can of tuna for lunch. After I brought him and and gave him the pill, he came in the office and slept in the floor near the desk. He had adopted that spot for the last couple of weeks, and I'm glad.
