the moon follows the car
Friday, May 07, 2004

Ah, I haven't forgotten my pledge! I must post. Post is the beginning of the thought. Post is the end of the thought. The post is.
I overworked my new heart today. Well, it's not really new, but it has a lot of new parts. I did yard work for almost two hours today. It felt really good to be outside, in the heat. It's been unseasonably hot here, hot like mid-summer. The smell of fresh grass being cut was wonderful. I didn't rush, just kept at it, never really stopped except to get some water. Oh, and to watch the guy tow my wife's car to the shop, which wouldn't start today. So when I finally stopped, I was famished. I let my glucose drop too low, got weak, and had to rush in and eat lunch. I just got over that, and was sitting here at my desk, reading the news, when the feeling hit me in the chest. It wasn't pain, just tightness. It wasn't a scary sensation, but I could tell immediately that my heart was recovering from all that work that I hadn't done for over two weeks. If there had been an oxygen tank here, I would have used it. I could tell I needed it. After a bit, I got up, although I really didn't feel that much better, and got cleaned up and went after my wife, at work. We went out to eat, and ran a couple of errands. After everything settled down, that same feeling came back for a couple of hours. I can tell that I need to ease back into full-time action, but I have to work tomorrow, and that won't be possible. I think I'll make it, but it'll be tough. I have the cardiologist's office working on getting me into rehab, which I'm chomping at the bit to get started on. That will help. It's going to be a long road back this time, looks like.
I have begun putting links onto the site at last. Amateur that I am, I learned how a long time ago, but like my posting, I didn't. I found a few so far that I liked, and more to come. I had a ton saved, and lost it all in the crash of '04. That's what I'm calling the event of about a month ago, when my hard drive crashed overnight and I lost everything on it. This is all from scratch. (I'm not a total amateur, I put in a new hard drive, and reinstalled the operating system on my own...not too shabby.)
I watched a some of the Rumsfeld appearance at the hearings in the Senate today, at the start, during the water break, and after. I think it was him, it could have been Darrell Hammond. He does a better Rumsfeld than Rumsfeld. For me, no political activity today. Just survival.
